Are you a member of a Union?
There is a Union membership available for all comrades.
For those comrades who are retired, unwaged, in receipt of benefits or self-employed then you might wish to investigate membership of Unite Community – subscription – 50p per week.
The Bridgwater and District Trades Union Council also covers Highbridge and the surrounding area. We are lucky that we have been supported by the BWDTUC when setting up and funding the Public Meeting for the Save Highbridge Library Campaign.
For those of you trades unionists in the non-Bridgwater part of the constituency, you will be please to know that the long-held plan to create a Mendip Trades Union Council is coming to fruition and the first meetings have already been announced.
Of course, many Trades Unions are not affiliated to the Labour Party, but those Unions are still fighting to support friends who are employed in private and public sector organisations and where pay and conditions of service are still significant problems that need Trade Union intervention.
Many members of teaching and public sector industries are members of these non-affiliated unions, but are also members of the Labour Party.
The relationship of the Labour Party and the Trades Unions is one that still needs to be maintained.
If you are a Labour Party member, then make sure that you are also a Union member.
If you are a Union member, then make sure you are also a member of the Labour Party.
